Ratatouille
What if a rat could cook gourmet food? Ratatouille is Hells Kitchen with one of the cooks controled by a pupet-master rat. All goes well until... That rat is discovered by the head chef, the most feared food critic comes to dinner and health inspector pays a surprise visit.
Pixar has done it again with Ratatouille. The movie combine rich plot lines, fantastic animation and fine food and wine. As the movie drew me in, it occurred to me that this rat-chef was ... a rat! I must tell you, I almost lost it. But the fun of the movie took over and eventually my stomach settled.
The Pixar crowd are masters of design as well. This is more than quality graphics, the core action carries the storyline. The visuals merely unpack the supporting details of a richer experience. They have mastered motion, proportion sequencing, camera angle and set detail.
The food on the plates actually looks real, in an animated sort of way. It looks like high-end gourmet food, with sauces and garnish. The chef's in the movie can cook - sipping, salting, fussing and stirring. The wine has legs. These deep, dark reds served before dinner look delicious.
